  • The main objective of organizing this day is to ensure that citizens are made aware of the development of science. At the same time, this day also underlines the role of science in broadening our understanding of the earth.
  • World Science Day for Peace and Development was first celebrated around the world on 10 November 2002 under the auspices of UNESCO.
  • This day is the result of the World Conference on Science held in Budapest in the year 1999.
  • The day provides an opportunity to the general public to show the relevance of science in their lives and engage it in dialogue.
  • The theme of this day for the year 2020 is ‘Building Climate-Ready Communities’.
