Railway Protection Force (RPF) has launched Operation Aahat to stop human trafficking. It will mainly focus on the trains that are running from the bordering countries.
This operation is being done under the Ministry of Railways. RPF works under the Ministry of Railways.
Operation Aahat:
Under this operation, RPF will deploy Special Forces in long distance trains. The operation will mainly focus on rescuing women and children from traffickers.
This operation will be implemented in every train operated by Indian Railways. Indian Railways operates a total of 21,000 trains. According to RPF, railways are the most reliable mode of transport for smugglers.
Under this operation the RPF will collect, match and analyze the clues. Information on routes, victims, sources, destination and popular trains will be collected.
RPF will use all its intelligence in the operation. The details collected will be shared with other law enforcing agencies. RPF will assist the local police and act as a bridge in inter-state work.
Cyber cells will be made under this operation. More attention will be given to trains running from Myanmar, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Background:
RPF rescued two thousand women from the clutches of traffickers between 2017 and 2021.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, 2,200 new trafficking cases are registered every year.
In 2011, the Government of India ratified the UNTOC. UNTOC stands for United Nations Conventions against Transnational Organized Crime. The UNTOC Protocol covers the prevention, suppression and punishment of human trafficking.
Operation Required:
Women and children are the main victims of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, domestic slavery and forced marriage.
Also, there is human trafficking for organ transplantation, drug servitude etc.
Trafficked people are treated like slaves. They are also trafficked for working in circuses, begging, illegal adoption, working in entertainment industry etc.
