Hansa-NG: Indigenous Flying Trainer – Today Current Affairs
- Recently India’s first indigenous ‘Flying Trainer’ Hansa-NG has successfully completed sea level trials in Puducherry from February 19 to March 5, 2022.
- It has been developed by CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratory (CSIR-NAL).
- National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL), a constituent of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) established in the year 1959, is the only government aerospace R&D laboratory in the country’s civilian sector.
- The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is the largest Research and Development (R&D) organization in India.

Features of Hansa-ng
- ‘Hansa-NG’ is one of the most advanced flight trainers.
- ‘Hansa-NG’ is an improved version of ‘Hansa’, which made its first flight in the year 1993, and was certified in the year 2000.
- Center approved the NAL retro-modified HANSA-3 aircraft with HANSA-NG and glass cockpit in 2018 and it was certified by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Aero-India will test the aircraft in 2019.
- It is powered by Rotax Digital Control Engine which is designed to meet the requirement of trainer aircraft by flying clubs in India.
- It is an ideal aircraft for Commercial Pilot Licensing (CPL) due to its low cost and low fuel consumption.
National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) : The Hindu Analysis
- NAL was established in 1959 by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in New Delhi. It is India’s first and largest aerospace research firm.
- The main responsibility of NAL is to develop civil aircraft in India. It works closely with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
