  • Babasaheb Purandare, the famous historian and writer of India, passed away.

Introduction:

  • Balwant Moreshwar Purandare was born on July 29, 1922 in Maharashtra, popularly known as Babasaheb Purandare.
  • He was a writer and historian and was famous for his writings on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
  • He was popularly known as ‘Shiva-Shaheer’.
  • He had authority in writing work on the Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji and started writing (stories) work on Shivaji’s life and achievements at a very young age.
  • These stories were later compiled and published as a book called Thinagya/Sparks which details Shivaji’s reign.
  • Babasaheb Purandare’s other works include Biography of Narayanrao Peshwa, Raja Shiv Chhatrapati and books called Kesari.
  • Apart from this, he is known for his popular play ‘Janata Raja’, which was published in 5 languages ​​since 1985. It was originally written in Marathi.
  • The Government of Madhya Pradesh honored him with the Kalidas Samman in 2007-08 for his works in the field of drama.
  • In the year 2019, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award.
  • He was also awarded the Maharashtra Bhushan Award in the year 2015. It is the highest civilian award of Maharashtra.
