  • Raising Day of ‘Border Security Force’ (BSF) is celebrated every year on 1st December.
  • The Border Security Force (BSF) was established in the year 1965 with the special purpose of protecting the Indian borders after the Indo-Pakistani War.
  • It is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) of India under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
  • More than 2.65 lakh defence personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) are deployed on the borders of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
  • Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have been deployed in anti-Naxal operations, Indo-Pakistan International Border, Indo-Bangladesh International Border and Line of Control (LoC).
  • It includes an Air Wing, Marine Wing, an Artillery Regiment and a Commando Unit.
  • The Border Security Force (BSF) guards Sir Crake in the Arabian Sea and the Sundarbans Delta in the Bay of Bengal through its state-of-the-art ships.
  • Apart from this, the Border Security Force (BSF) also does the work of saving human lives during natural calamities when required. In addition, its trained personnel are also sent to UN peacekeeping missions.
  • Other Central Armed Police Forces are: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
