About Aparna Ramesh

Aparna Ramesh, a 28-year-old resident of Karnataka, achieved the unthinkable to crack UPSC while working full-time by actually doing it. Despite facing numerous obstacles, she secured the 35th All India Rank in the 2020 UPSC examination. According to Aparna, the journey to success was challenging, emphasizing the significance of effective time management in balancing professional, personal, and academic commitments. Although she encountered difficulties in maintaining consistency, she made every effort to persevere and give her best.

Education of Aparna Ramesh

Aparna completed her undergraduate studies at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, and later pursued a Master’s degree at CEPT University in Ahmedabad. She was awarded a fellowship program by the Government of India called the Smart City Mission, administered by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs. Additionally, she gained valuable experience as an intern in Urban Planning at Deutsche in Germany. 

Having moved frequently due to her father’s government job, Aparna developed a strong sense of adaptability and resilience. Her architectural background equipped her with insights into infrastructural challenges and a deep understanding of urban development, ultimately empowering her to contribute effectively in positions of authority.

Family Background

Hailing from an academically accomplished family, Aparna Ramesh’s father serves as a civil servant, while her mother, Dr. Gurushree Ramesh, holds a PhD and works as an English Language teacher. Additionally, Aparna has a younger brother who is an Entrepreneur dedicated to assisting youth with career counseling. 

During an interview, Aparna expressed gratitude for the unwavering support she received from her family when she made the decision to prepare for the UPSC exam. Their encouragement persisted even after she faced a setback in 2019 when she did not clear the exam.

Aparna Ramesh passed UPSC in her second attempt where she chose anthropology as her optional subject. Her total marks were 1004 while her written marks were 825. She even scored a really high mark in her personality test where she scored 171.
