- ‘Bhasha Certificate Selfie’ has been launched to encourage cultural diversity, promote multilingualism and spread the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.
- It aims to promote Bhasha Sangam Mobile App developed by Ministry of Education and MyGov India.
- Bhasha Sangam Mobile App was launched on the occasion of National Integration Day, 2021 (October 31).
- It aims to ensure that people acquire basic communication skills in Indian languages. Under this, a target has been set to acquire basic communication skills by 75 lakh people.
- This initiative of ‘Bhasha Certificate Selfie’ is encouraging people to upload their selfies with certificates from their social media accounts using the hashtag #BhashaCertificateSelfie.
Bhasha Sangam Initiative: The Hindu Analysis
- It is an initiative of Ministry of Education under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat to teach basic sentences of daily use of 22 Indian languages (Languages of Eighth Schedule).
- It has been developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
- The idea behind this is that people should acquire basic conversational skills in an Indian language other than their mother tongue.
- It is available through Diksha (DIKSHA), ePathshala and 22 booklets.
Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Initiative: The Hindu Analysis
- It was launched in the year 2015 to promote connectivity among the people of different states/UTs so as to enhance mutual understanding and bond between people of different cultures, which will strengthen the unity and integrity of India.
- It is an initiative of the Ministry of Education.
- Every state and union territory of the country will be linked with another state/UT for a period of time during which people can exchange ideas with each other in the fields of language, literature, cuisine, festivals, cultural programs, tourism etc.
Eighth Schedule of the Constitution: The Hindu Analysis
- The constitutional provisions relating to the Eighth Schedule are contained in Articles 344(1) and 351 of the Constitution.
The languages included in the Eighth Schedule are: Today Current Affairs
- Assamese, (2) Bengali, (3) Gujarati, (4) Hindi, (5) Kannada, (6) Kashmiri, (7) Konkani, (8) Malayalam, (9) Manipuri, (10) Marathi, (11 ) Nepali, (12) Oriya, (13) Punjabi, (14) Sanskrit, (15) Sindhi, (16) Tamil, (17) Telugu, (18) Urdu (19) Bodo, (20) Santhali, (21) Maithili and (22) Dogri.
- These languages have been added through constitutional amendments.
