G20 ‘Troika’ Today Current affairs

  • India has joined the G20 ‘troika’ and with this India has started the process of taking over the ‘G20’ presidency for the next year.

About Troika:

  • It refers to an apex grouping within the G20 which includes the current, past and upcoming presiding countries i.e. Indonesia, Italy and India.
  • As a Troika member, India will work closely with Indonesia and Italy to ensure the continuation of the G20 agenda.
  • India will assume the presidency of the G20 from Indonesia on December 1, 2022, and in the year 2023, the G20 Leaders’ Summit will be held in India for the first time.
  • Italy hosted the G20 summit from October 30-31, 2021, where India raised the issue of the future of Afghanistan after its takeover by the Taliban.
  • Indonesia assumed the presidency of the G20 from December 1, 2021, and in the coming months, Indonesia will hold a conference for discussions at various levels among G20 members ahead of the G20 Leaders’ Summit scheduled for October 30-31, 2022.
  • Next year’s summit will be held with the overall theme of “Recover Together, Recover Stronger”.

G20:
