- Recently ‘Global Happiness Report 2022’ has been published by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
- This year marks the 10th anniversary of the ‘Global Happiness Report’.

Global Happiness Report:
- The ‘World Happiness Report’, published since 2012, is based on two key ideas:
- Happiness or life evaluation to be measured through surveys and
- To identify the key factors which determine the welfare and evaluation of life in the country.
- The report generally ranks 150 countries based on a number of factors such as real GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom of decision making and perception of corruption.
- This year 146 countries have been ranked in the report.
- Each variable annually measures a population-weighted average score on a scale of 0-10 that is tracked over a period of time and compared to other countries.
Countries Display:
Top Performers: The Hindu Analysis
- Finland has been declared the world’s happiest country for the fifth time in a row, followed by Denmark.
- The greatest increase in happiness occurred in Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania.
Lowest performers: The Hindu Analysis
- Afghanistan was ranked as the unhappy nation, followed by Lebanon, Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Botswana, respectively.
India’s performance: The Hindu Analysis
- India’s ranking has seen a slight improvement, from 139th a year ago, while this year it has risen to 136th.

Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN):
- Launched in 2012, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) provides scientific and technical expertise on a global scale to address practical problems related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement.
- It was established under the aegis of the United Nations Secretary-General.
- The annual SDG Index and Dashboard Global Report is being published by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and Bertelsmann Stiftung since 2016.
