  • Which was divided in the year 2004 into two separate National Commissions constituted for Scheduled Castes and Tribes by the 89th Constitutional Amendment Act 2003.
  • At present the National Commission for Scheduled Castes has been constituted under Article 338 of the Constitution and the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has been constituted under Article 338A.

Composition of National Commission for Scheduled Castes:

  • President.
  • Vice President.
  • Three other members.
  • The chairman and members of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes are appointed by the order of the President.

Functions of National Commission for Scheduled Castes:

  • To supervise and supervise all matters relating to constitutional protection of Scheduled Castes and to review their implementation.
  • To investigate and hear all matters relating to Scheduled Castes.
