The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced the National Sports Awards 2021. It consists of 6 different awards.
- Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award
- Arjuna Award
- Dronacharya Award
- Dhyan Chand Award
- Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy
- National Sports Promotion Award
Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award:
- It was established in 1991-1992. This award was earlier known as Rajiv Gandhi Award.
- It is the highest honor given to a sportsperson in India.
- This is the highest award given for outstanding performance by a player in the last four years.
- The award carries a medal, a certificate and Rs.25 lakh. is given.
Arjuna Award:
- This award was started by the Government of India in 1961.
- This award is given to sportspersons who have demonstrated sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, and good performance in the last 4 years.
- In this award Rs.15 lakh, a certificate and a bronze statue of Arjuna are given.
Dronacharya Award:
- This award was started in the year 1985 for the good trainers (coaches/gurus) in sports.
- In this award Rs.15 lakhs, an honorarium and a bronze statue of Dronacharya are given.
Dhyan Chand Award:
- This award was started in the year 2002.
- In this award Rs.10 lakh, a statue of Dhyan Chand, a certificate is given.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy:
- This award was established in 1956-57. This award is given for sports performance at the university level.
- It is given to the best performing university in the sports between universities in the last 1 year.
National Sports Promotion Awards:
- This award was established in 2002.
- This award is given to state / national level sports bodies, NGOs, private and government sectors, sports control boards, which have played an important role in the field of promoting sports.

- Khelo India.
- National Sports Fund.
- Special Area Game Plan.
- Sports Authority of India Training Center Scheme.
