The Idea:

A new technology may soon improve the cost-effective and long-term reuse of waste water. As a technological solution in industrial and municipal wastewater treatment, UV-Photocatalysis can treat municipal sewage and highly polluting industrial wastewater streams and improve their reuse.

The Context:

  1. The Advanced Oxidation Technology or TADOX®, created by the Energy and Resources Institute in New Delhi, can help achieve Zero Liquid Discharge by reducing reliance and strain on biological and tertiary treatment systems (ZLD). 
  2. For industrial wastewater treatment, it can reduce capital expenditure on ZLD by 25-30% and operating expenses by 30-40%.

The Benefits

  1. It enhances biodegradability, reducing membrane fouling and extending the life and efficiency of RO systems, as well as the overall load on evaporators such as Multiple Effect Evaporators and Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR), and so on.
  2. Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), dissolved organics, pathogens, Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), and Micropollutants can all be reduced with this method.
