The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has recently announced the Royal Gold Medal honor and it is a matter of joy for Indians that Indian architect Bal krishna Doshi has been selected for Britain’s Royal Gold Medal 2022.
The Royal Gold Medal is one of the world’s highest honors for architecture.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted and congratulated him on being selected for this honor. The PM said that Doshi’s contribution to the world of architecture is memorable.
The Royal Gold Medal is personally acknowledged by Queen Elizabeth II. It is given to a person or group of people who have made a significant contribution to the development of architecture.
Doshi worked with Le Corbusier for four years as senior designer (1951–54) in Paris.
Doshi’s citation states that he is recognized internationally for his visionary urban planning and social housing projects as well as his work in the field of architecture and architecture education as a visiting professor in universities in India and around the world.
His projects include administrative and cultural facilities, housing development and residential buildings. Guilty has also been a Pritzker Award winner.
