- The period of 19th century is considered to be the period of religious-cultural and social renaissance in India.
- It is worth noting that during this period, many intellectuals and great men came forward to make radical changes in religion and society and they also tried to remove the prevalent defects in Indian society.
- The name of Savitribai Phule is taken with great respect among such great social reformers. Together with her husband, Jyotirao Phule, she gave a new direction to the Indian social reform movement.
- Savitribai Phule was born on 3 January 1831 in Maharashtra. His father’s name was Khandoji Nevse and mother’s name was Lakshmibai. The Hindu Analysis.
- At the age of only 12, she was married to Jyotirao Phule, who was a noted thinker, social activist, writer and philosopher.

- She founded an organization called Satyashodhak Samaj along with her husband to promote marriage without priests and discourage dowry system as well as get inter-caste marriages.

- After the plague broke out in Maharashtra, he, along with his son, opened a hospital in Pune in 1897 to treat plague victims. However, while serving the patients, she herself fell victim to the plague and on 10 March 1897 said goodbye to this world forever.
