  • This law empowers the magistrate of any state or union territory in India to pass orders prohibiting the assembly of four or more people in a specified area.

  • Section 144 prohibits the assembly of four or more people in the area concerned, while during curfew people are instructed to stay indoors for a specific period. During curfew, the government also imposes a complete ban on traffic.
