- Kerala Tourism will soon launch the ‘Street’ project at select locations in seven districts.
- ‘Street’ (STREET) is an acronym for ‘Sustainable, Tenable, Responsible, Experimental, Ethnic and Tourism Hub’.
- The project will help the visitors to experience the cultural diversity of specific places.
- The project, envisaged by the ‘Responsible Tourism Mission’, is inspired by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) slogan of ‘Tourism for Inclusive Development’.
- The project includes themes such as Green Street, Cultural Street, Village Life Experience Street, Experimental Tourism Street, Agri-Tourism Street, Water Street and Art Street.
- These roads will be tailored to the specifications of each place and will focus on experiential tourism.
- Its purpose is to present the unique identity of the state to the passengers.
- The project offers a huge potential for development in the tourism sector and will usher in significant changes in the state.
- The ‘Street’ project will be implemented in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode and will involve local bodies and residents of these places as stakeholders.
- Joint venture projects with local bodies are also envisaged. At least three such streets will be developed at each selected location.
